ONE LOVE BLACK COMMUNITY

BACKGROUND

At the beginning of COVID19 a Black Midwife in San Francisco, Asmara Gebre noted a racial disparity among recipients of pantry resources being offered in her clinical setting. This inequity inspired Asmara to create a resource that centered Black community. As a result, on April 25th, 2020 One Love Black Community was born. Shortly after, additional Black health care professionals & community members joined her effort, growing the organization to what we know today. One Love Black Community’s mission is to build trust in our community through action; we show up with essential resources, solidarity, love, respect, humility, and more. We are a grassroots, Black-Led community endeavor, who shows up for Black people accessing reproductive health care services in San Francisco. Our vision is rooted in building meaningful relationships in our Black community, while offering direct access to essential resources with no strings attached or questions asked (items include, but not limited to, produce boxes, toiletries, household essentials). In addition to showing up for the community, we aspire to connect with aspiring Black Reproductive Healthcare workers of San Francisco.
